London on a beautiful summer's evening

London can be enjoyed all year round. In summer Jubilee Bridge linking South Bank and Charing Cross is the best place to appreciate all that is on offer - free jazz music, art installations by the river as well as the magnificent view of the modern concrete and the natural beauty of the graceful river.

London for Free!

"If you are tired of London you are tired of life" said Dr Samuel Johnson in the 18th century. And it is still true today. On Saturday I ventured out with a friend NC to the South Bank - the largest art and entertainment complex in Europe. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon. There were so many things going on along the river. First of all at the South Bank Centre there was some indoor music going on - free. Outside there was an art installation called Volume which looked very interesting and amusing. The LCD posts change light and volume level according to mood and pattern. Then furhter along it was the Coin Street Festival in full swing with live band playing all sorts of music and stalls selling exotic Jamaica food including BBQs and other sugar cane and corn on the cob. I ended up buying a pot of golden thyme and a pair of silver earings. We walked as far as the Oxo tower area where the gallery there had a special WWF-sponsored exhibition showing a lot of the endangered species in the world including panda and polar bear. Very beautiful photography by R Hooper. Tate Modern seemed to be live with new exhibtions as well. And all these were for free. So go out and enjoy all these incredible treats London has got to offer. Enjoy London and enjoy life!

What a funny old world! - a story in London!

My friend AR is a very nice-looking blond woman in her 40's. She is a freelance journalist covering mainly travels and properties and love stories. The funny thing is that she has never found true love and settled down. She is a bit like the character in Sex in the City. She is quite dotty about her cats and being a vegetarian perhaps has put certain men off. In any case she is smart and caring and wants a partner of equal standing. I think not. As two people should complement each other. You cannot be the same in everything. Of course there has to be enough common interest to keep the two of you going. The rest can be developed with time. While this one is desperately searching for Mr Right. My other friend MJ who is TCM doctor is desperately trying to get out of hers. As she married in haste and now lives in regret and repent. She has been abused and beaten by the guy she thought was her Mr Right - her saviour. How wrong can she be! Now the lazy bugger just wants to bully her to give her earnings to him. What sort of man is this? I'll keep you posted on AR's more interesting adventures.

A new beginning! - window of the world

It's really interesting how something so plain and ordinary can change someone's perception and views on human nature. I was helping VSO to do some liaison work on their Global Xchange programme with China. I find the idea of volunteering can be quite mind-liberating. In this day and age it is quite remarkable to see so many people volunteering all around the world doing good cause stuff for other people. I hate to be dragged into a situation where I don't find comfortable with. This is where I think I differ from AR who is desperate for a date. Please guys take her out.
